- Gomna James, an Information Officer, writes from Bogoro LGA, Bauchi State.
Since the announcement of a 30-member committee to review the Sayawa chiefdom and the resettlement of displaced persons in Tafawa Balewa LGA of Bauchi State in line with the Justice Babalakin Judicial Commission of Inquiry by Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, Kauran Bauchi, the effort has been described by many people a welcome development and a laudable achievement.
I commend the governor for selecting credible personalities that make-up members of the committee. The terms of reference for the committee among other things are: to look into critical issues pertaining to the Zaar chiefdom and the resettlement of displaced persons in Tafawa Balewa LGA.
The demand for the granting of the Sayawa chiefdom otherwise known as Gung Zaar has been the major challenge for previous administration in Bauchi State. During the leadership of Mal. Isa Yuguda, the chiefdom was established with headquarter in Marti.
The citing of the headquarter in Marti was greeted with resistance from all nooks and crannies of Zaar nation. The administration of Barr. M. A. Abubakar considering the security implications suspended the idea and the court case involved halted the pro-gram.
It’s hoped that this is going to be the best time to actualize the long awaiting Gung Zaar chiefdom.
